Well... I do agree with you to some extent on most of the things you said!
It's true... most get the impression that "emo people" are just a bunch of morbid, unecessarily depressed kids who cut themselves. Not to mention, there's a whole thing about the sexuality (i.e. bi, gay...)
That isn't my opinion, just the usual hear-say I pick up from others at school.
My opinion: Frankly, I'm just tired of hearing it all... People being misunderstood for a label they're associated with. If you're going to call someone "emo," please make sure you know what "emo" is!
Much love,

Associating cutting with emos is like associating drinking and drugs with metalheads. Of course, I must agree that in the metal scene this definitely is true, but if you look at what the mainstream defines as emo, you might be actually quite right that most of the vocalists are either bi or gay. For example: Tokio Hotel's singer Bill K. has in fact just had his coming out (oh no, like no one had expected that before) - but "true emos" do not consider it emo. I have nothing in common with emos, but I regard Tokio Hotel as a pop/rock media hype.
However, those media-hyped stereotypes usually reinforce the image of the overly-feminine and depressed emo wave and it is really hard to change this image into something else. Problem is that people often associate self mutilation with any "darker" genre such as gothic or emo. |

Like Jenny said, this whole thing is annoying. There is nothing wrong with emo people... I don't understand why people don't like them. But at the same time I don't really associate with them.
The ones at our school can be really nice.
But I don't like it when people don't know what emo is and all they do is stereotype them with cutting...
It's all just stupid if you ask me... |

| ElninoQueen | I completely agree!
Every day, at least one person asks me if I'm a goth, or an emo, or something, just cos I dress differently - and not that differently, loose tie, spiky bracelets and a black teeshirt at most! If only people would quit using these stupid labels - I say to them, 'If I'm a goth, you're a chav!' and that shuts them up. I'm not ashamed if I am a goth, I just hate people labelling people with stuff like goth, emo, chav, gangsta, pimp, e.t.c. WE ARE HUMANS, NOT LABELS! |

Well said! People are always labeling other people! Like people think I'm gay and I'm not! They need to make sure that they now that's person's gay or bisexual or emo or goth before calling them one! In fact they just they need to stop period! |

| Razzberri | I have an emo friend.
Her name is Mina. She smokes, but doesn't cut, do drugs or drink. She's really nice, too. She just wears black all over. So what? |

| caringkiller09 | im tired of stereotypes
what is wrong with people that they have this insane obsession with categorizing everything and every one, i mean if you knew me you wouldnt be able to tell if i was preppy, and skater, emo, whatever i frnkly dont care to be categorized as any thing and i think this whole emo gothic vs preppy think is rediculous, were all human and for the most part all want the same thing. |

Charwello: I'm sorry, but please do us all a favor and shut up?! Do you LIKE pissing people off?
Razzberri: By saying that you "have an emo friend," you're only stereotyping your friend and just adding on to the whole "emo" label...

| singer | ..,
ahh! i didn't meen to label my sis (sorry)! but anyway, i actually wrote a song about people who label others. the title is "labeler". and yes, labels still piss me off. my school is full of "emos", and no scuicide attempts have ever been in our school. 974 students attend. 23,000 from 1962 til now. it is a PROVEN FACT!!! plus, if there were any reports of cutting, it wouldn't even be in my district. ]Thank You For Listening[ |
