Anastacia is Artist of the Week. Anastacia on Moron.nl!

This week's artist:
Anastacia

"If I could paint a picture of this melody
It would be a violin without its strings
And the canvas in my mind
Sings the songs I left behind
Like pretty flowers and a sunset"

Biography:
Anastacia is a rare talent. She is a songwriter, a producer, a singer and a dancer. The 5'3" singer burst onto the music scene in 1999 with her debut album Not That Kind, and wowed audiences and critics alike, with her powerful vocal range. She conquered Europe and secured her place as an International superstar with gold, platinum and multi-platinum sales status in more than a dozen countries with overall album sales exceeding 5 million copies. She had a massive hit with her single 'I'm Outta Love' which topped the charts in various countries.

Anastacia had numerous appearances on radio stations, award shows and was featured in several magazines.

She has a long list of awards, including Best New International Artist at the 2001 World Music Awards and a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2001 MTV Europe Music Awards and you've got yourself an artist who is proud of who she is.

The singles "Not That Kind" and "Cowboys and Kisses" were also big hits. The single "Made For Lovin' You" was featured in a Honda commercial.

In 2001 she released her album 'Freak of Nature', which altogether sold 6 million copies and reached #27 of the Billboard Charts and #1 in tons of countries. For instance, in Holland she had her 2nd #1 hit-album and the album was certified triple platinum there (240.000 copies). Her singles Paid My Dues and One Day In Your Life were big hits.

She recorded a song ("Someday My Prince Were Come") for a Disney soundtrack on which artists sing Disney songs their own way.

In 2003 Anastacia got diagnosed with breastcancer after she went to see the doctor for a breast-size reduction because she had continuous backaches. In february 2003 Anastacia underwent seven hours of surgery to have the cancerous lump in her breast removed.

In the same period Anastacia recorded a song for the Chicago soundtrack, Love Is A Crime. Due to her illness this track wasn't released as a single because promotional appearances were obviously impossible.

Anastacia set up a charity (the Anastacia Fund) to raise funds for research into breast cancer to help younger women with cancer. She's also going to act as a spokesperson for the US cable network Lifetime's annual Stop Breast Cancer for Life awareness campaign. Anastacia comments: "I established the Anastacia Fund because I believe that women need to have choices when it comes to managing their health."

After her surgery Anastacia recorded the song 'Amandla' together with Queen for Nelson Mandela's 46664 campaign and she performed live in South Africa together with Bono, Beyoncé and Queen.

Now in 2004, Anastacia is back in full power! Her self-titled album "Anastacia" was released in March and her new single "Left Outside Alone" reached the top 3 of many countries all around the world. The 2nd single, "Sick and Tired" also was one of 2004's smash singles. A third single, Welcome To My Truth was released in autumn 2004 and the fourth single, Heavy On My Heart/Underground Army will be released in February 2005. Anastacia toured in 2004 in Europe with all concerts sold out with her "Anastacia.. live at last" tour.
