This week's artist: The Killers
The Killers are this weeks (03-29-2009) ARTIST OF THE WEEK. They are currently holding the #1 position at Moron.nl's 24 hour top 10.
Brandon Flowers (vocals/keyboards), David Keuning (guitar), Mark Stoermer (bass), and Ronnie Vannucci (drums) are the four who make up the band, The Killers. They took the fashionista pop world by storm in summer 2004 with "Somebody Told Me." The perfectly stylish song pulls from the band's influences -- the Smiths, New Order, Oasis, and the Cure -- and it was just enough to get them on MTV. Part new wave and part new-millennium post-punk, this Las Vegas foursome originally got together in 2002.
Flowers had left behind his former synth pop band, Blush Response, when he noticed a classified ad in the local newspaper placed by Keuning. Both of them were huge Oasis fans, and within weeks the two composed their soon-to-be cult hit, "Mr. Brightside." Stoermer, a former medical courier, and Vannucci, a classical percussion major at UNLV, soon joined the fray that became the Killers.
Their first album, "Hot Fuss", is packed-full with eleven songs, including songs such as "Somebody Told Me", "All These Things I've Done", and the classis hit, "Mr. Brightside". Along with these songs are also two others- "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" and "Midnight Show"- that make a three part murder trilogy.
The first part of the trilogy, "Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf" is suspected to make an appearance at some point in the future. You'll find two-thirds of the trilogy in "Midnight Show", which starts off harking back to "Lipgloss" before veering into far darker territory than old Jarvis would ever have flirted with, in Pulp days at least, and "Jenny". These two are connected by the story of a murder of a girl by her jealous boyfriend ("There was water involved," says Brandon, cryptically, "although he didn't drown her"). The third song, Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine", is all about Jenny's boyfriend being detained and questioned for her death. The murder trilogy is said to be turned into a 25 minute movie, as the band is already making decisions as to who will take part in the acting.
"Hot Fuss", released on June 15th 2005, was followed by the limited edition with the folowing songs: "Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll", "The Ballad Of Micheal Valentine", and "Under The Gun". In 2006 of October, the band released their latest album, "Sam's Town" which in Brandon Flowers opinion, depicts a positive image of America.
